Responsibilities:
Med/Surg Nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles.
In addition to general nursing care, responsibilities of Med/Surg Nurses include (but are not limited to):
Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plansPrepares and administers (orally, subcutaneously, through an IV) and records prescribed medications.
Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with the policy regarding the administration of medications by a licensed registered nurseEducates patients on surgical proceduresRecords patients' medical information and vital signsMonitors and adjusts specialized equipment used on patients, and interprets and records electronic displaysInitiates corrective action whenever the patient displays adverse symptomatologyProvides bedside care for a wide variety of medical patients, including pre- and post-surgery patientsInitiates patient education plan, as prescribed by physician.
Teaches patients and significant others how to manage their illness/injury, by explaining:
post-treatment home care needsChanges dressings, inserts catheters, starts IVsPrepares equipment and aids physician during examination and treatment of patientResponds to life-saving situations based upon nursing standards and protocolParticipates in discharge planningUtilizes time management skillsRecords all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate formsPerforms other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment settingPosition Requirements:
Graduate of an accredited nursing programActive WI Registered Nurse License.
Minimum of two (1) year Med/Surg experience in a hospitalCurrent BLS Recommended Skills Administration Basic Life Support Certified Nurse Practitioner Corrective And Preventive Action (Capa) Diseases And Disorders Home Care Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
